Festivals program /  From September 1, this year’s program of Riga International Film Forum “Arsenāls” is available on www.arsenals.lv This year “Arsenāls” will take place from September 17 till 26 in cinemas “Rīga” and “K Suns”. Season passes – available! /  As usual, fall also brings a new cinema harvest – the indispensible culture event "Arsenāls". Its 20th edition will be held from 17th to 26th of September 2010. "Arsenāls’" film ticket bookings are available since 12th of July to make your visit to cinema economically favourable.  You can book tickets for five films (LVL 10) or ten films (LVL 19). The postman comes twice /  Submission of films for “Arsenal’s” Baltic and International competition has finished. Films arrived from all over the world. The postman came to “Arsenal’s” office even twice a day and our big mailbox sometimes turned out to be too small. Thank you for submitted films either you brought them by yourself or sent by post, thank you for films wrapped for hours  in plastic, paper or even wooden covers. It seems we haven’t received so many films ever before!

Dimensions of Lee /  It has been more than a year since we first heard rumours about Ang Lee’s intention to screen the novel Life of Pi that finally have been confirmed. Now we know for sure that the novel of Canadian writer which has passed through multiple directors’ hands including Alfonso Cuaron, Dean Georgaris, M. Night Shyamalan and Jean-Pierre Jeneut will be  Ang Lee’s new big-budget film (up to $70 million) as well as his first 3D film.

Spring’s apple harvest /  Book design contest “Zelta Ābele” ("The Golden Appletree") is an annual event held by Latvian Publishers’ Association. In its 17th edition Mr. Sukut’s and Ms. Matīsa’s book "Arsenāls. Kādas ķecerības vēsture" issued by the International Centre of Cinema was nominated in the category of Reference books. The category’s main prize was given to book "Latvijas ģerboņi, papildinājums". Latvian Printers’ Association awarded Arsenal’s edition with a special prize for its original design. Jafar Panahi arrested /  Jafar Panahi arrested in Iran The film world is calling for the release of director Jafar Panahi, who was arrested on Monday evening in his house in Tehran by plainclothes officers of the Iranian regime. The following were also arrested: his wife and daughter, film directors Mohammad Rasulov, Mahnaz Mohammadi, Rokhsareh Ghaem-Maghami and cameraman Ebrahim Ghafari.

César Awards 2010 /  The 35th Annual César Awards ceremony was held by the Académie des Arts et Techniques du Cinéma to honor its selection of the best films of 2009 on February 27, 2010. Marion Cotillard was chosen as the Hononary President of the ceremony. Harrison Ford was presented with an Honorary César by Sigourney Weaver.
