Beloved / L'aimee

France, 2007, 70 min, D

When Arnaud Desplechin’s father decided to sell the family house, the film director arrived to film it one last time. But this film is not a colourless chronicle about a fragment of family history. The film, interwoven by „Vertigo” text, is a poetic meditation about women. The leading role has been attributed to Therese, the director’s mother. Therese, a mythical woman, died a year and a half after her son’s birth. Although the son and the grandsons have never met her, the film is pervaded by a warm and touching love towards this person, whose life is only testified by carefully preserved letters and a portrait on the wall.
