This film is based on a story by Sergei Yesenin. The Hollow is a place that captivates people so that it is impossible to get free. If you get free, you die. The protagonist, Karev, is the only person who really wants to escape from the Hollow. By leaving he gives up the traditional lifestyle and unintentionally leads some of those closest to him to death. A picture of the Russian countryside at the beginning of the 20th century provides insight into the darkest depths of the Russian soul from the point of view of an intellectual rebel.

The film has participated in the Karlovy Vary film festival, and has received the prize for best music at the Sochi Kinotavr film festival.
